Yi coin

In ancient times Yi dynasty coins were called “Byul Chon”.

They were minted as memory coins ( a sort as first issue) before they made the “Sang Pyong Tong Bo” (Yi Dynasty Currency).

The coins have various designs mainly influenced from the Confucianism script and the Taoism, which was the Yi Dynasty religion.

They are expressions of Korean humaneness, manners, ethics and trends ad that time.

The decorations are sculptured pictures and letters.

All Byul Chon hat their own name, this particularly coin was called “Deer and Bats coin”.

Byul Chon were mainly used as hangers or charms, connected with red, yellow and blue strings.

A charm (or hanger) like that, was called “Kai Keum Pai”.

It was also a custom to wear a Kai Keum Pai for the bride at her wedding to bring good luck.

Some woman (mainly of the higher society) wear them all year true to bring fortune and good luck.

Kai Keum Pai were also used as decorations on the wall inside the houses, probably for the same reason and to protect their houses.

Even upon today in some parts of the country it is still custom to use and wear a Kai Keum Pai.

Yi dynasty Byul Chon are rare to come by

The Yi Dynasty (1392 - 1910 AD).

In A.D. 1392 a dynasty known as the Yi Dynasty came to power in Korea.

Yi rulers built a new capital city, which they named Hanyang.

Hanyang would become the present day city of Seoul, which for many years was the modern capital of Korea.

Under Yi rulers the Koreans developed many cultural advancements, including an alphabet, advancements in weather forecasting, and advancements in war technology.

These advancements in wartime technologies allowed helped them to defend themselves against outside attacks, and allowed them to maintain their independence for centuries.
